Why do this?
There are more than 150 million orphans in the world, and twice as many vulnerable children (UNICEF). By investing in children today, we’re also building a better tomorrow. Also, Real Estate is the largest industry in America by GDP – that’s quite an opportunity to make a significant difference in this world!
What is SAHSAC?
Sell a Home, Save a Child (SAHSAC) is a movement in the Real Estate Industry to help materially poor and vulnerable children around the world build brighter futures. Members of SAHSAC commit to giving monthly to Forward Edge International, a non-profit organization that helps at-risk children around the world break free from the effects of extreme poverty.
Who is SAHSAC for; is it just for Realtors, or is it for everyone?
Any individual or company in the Real Estate Industry who wants to make a difference for children is eligible for SAHSAC membership. Realtors, Mortgage Lenders, Developers, Contractors, and Title Companies are just some examples of groups who can join. Anyone looking to buy or sell a home who wants to make a difference for vulnerable children can participate by using a SAHSAC member for their transaction, or by donating toward the cause at Forward Edge International.
How does it work?
An individual can become a SAHSAC member by committing to a membership level of $250, $500 or $750 a month. A company can become a member with a commitment of $1,000 a month (compiling donations from team members within the firm). Every member receives materials for promoting their philanthropic membership as well as access to real estate coaching benefits. They also receive exclusive access to purchase custom SAHSAC luxury gift boxes made by Sozo they can give as closing gifts to their clients (this is optional).
Where does the money go?
One hundred percent of all membership fees go to Forward Edge International. More specifically, SAHSAC funds are used to support Forward Edge’s programs for vulnerable children in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico and Nicaragua.
What does the money accomplish?
$250 helps provide for the physical and educational needs of two children in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico or Nicaragua – things like nutritious meals, health care, safe drinking water, school tuition, school supplies and tutoring.
$500 helps provide for the physical and educational needs of four children in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico or Nicaragua – things like nutritious meals, health care, safe drinking water, school tuition, school supplies and tutoring.
$750 helps provide for the physical and educational needs of six children in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico or Nicaragua – things like nutritious meals, health care, safe drinking water, school tuition, school supplies and tutoring.
$1,000 helps provide for the physical and educational needs of eight children in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico or Nicaragua – things like nutritious meals, health care, safe drinking water, school tuition, school supplies and tutoring.
Why does it seem more expensive to help through SAHSAC than to just sponsor a child directly through Forward Edge?
It is $76 a month to directly sponsor two children on Forward Edge International’s website ($38 per child). Through SAHSAC, though, it costs $250 to help two children. Why the difference? Because it takes a minimum of three sponsorships directly through Forward Edge to fully cover one child’s needs (you can read more about that here). Three times $38 is $114; multiply this by two children and you get $228. The SAHSAC membership cost is rounded up another $22 to a total of $250 a month to help cover Forward Edge’s residential program in Nicaragua, which costs much more than three sponsorships per child.
How do I sign up?
Go to this page to register as a silver, gold or platinum SAHSAC member. A Silver membership costs $250 / month (and helps two children), a Gold costs $500 / month (helping four children) and a Platinum costs $750 / month (helping six children). Please contact us if you’d like to sign up as a company at $1,000 / month (helping 8 children).
The registration form will ask you for your t-shirt size, your company logo and your profile photo. Your t-shirt size is needed for the SAHSAC promotional “goodie” bag we will send you. Your company logo and profile photo will be used for our SAHSAC member directory, a resource that drives prospective home buyers and sellers to learn more about you and potentially become one of your clients.
After you sign up for your membership, you’ll then get exclusive access to luxury chocolate, wine and coffee gift boxes from Sozo Friends that you can use as closing gifts for your clients. This is optional for you, but is a great way to share with your clients that when they do business with you, they’re also helping vulnerable children.
Can I still help if I’m not in the Real Estate Industry?
Absolutley! You can help make a difference for vulnerable children through either of these ways:
1) When buying or selling a house, choose to do business through a SAHSAC member. By doing so, your business will lead to more SAHSAC gifts. You can use our SAHSAC member directory page to find a SAHSAC member near you.
2) You can give a gift or sponsor a child directly through Forward Edge International.
Who’s behind the SAHSAC movement?
Forward Edge International’s mission is to partner with God to transform the lives of vulnerable children, disaster victims, and those who go to serve them. Forward Edge accomplishes its mission by partnering with visionary Christ-followers in the U.S. and around the world to conduct child-focused community development and phase II disaster response projects, and by mobilizing volunteers to support these projects.
Sozo Friends is a luxury wine, chocolate and coffee gift box supplier committed to understanding the companies they serve. They strive to inspire business partners to cultivate community and practice the value of generosity. Sozo believes in the power of core values that generate meaning in the workplace. Strong, compelling values hold great potential to build employee satisfaction, customer loyalty and generosity toward community causes.
The Co-founders of Sell a Home, Save a Child, Erik Hatch and Nick Shivers, had been giving generously for many years to help vulnerable children around the world. But they dreamed of something bigger. They wanted to use their success and influence as two of the top 1% of Realtors in the nation to inspire a movement of difference-makers in the Real Estate Industry. After countless volunteer hours and significant financial donations, Erik and Nick’s dream came true, and they launched Sell a Home, Save a Child in 2015.
